Cover of booklet "Christmas Miracles/1991" with a jingle bell and pine graphic and the Dutch song lyric from Miracle on 34th Street

1991

This Dutch Christmas song is from my favorite Christmas movie, Miracle on 34th Street. Many times I've cried at the scene when Santa sings "Sinterklass kapoentje" with the little refugee girl.

For me, part of the charm of the movie is that it reminds me of the 1940s and 50s, when I was a child. So I made this book in that tradition. Even Jane and her doll are dressed for the period.

The first page of the book is a photo of Jane on Santa's lap.

"I believe. I believe. It's silly but I believe." in a child's writing, and a silhouette of a girl

Loose drawing of a dog "Meecha," metallic star stickers, and a little book in a child's hand "Miracle on 34th Street"

Jane made the book within the book.

The small child's drawing from the page above is open, with a drawing from the movie.

Two photos of Jane in an outfit matching that of her Molly doll, her handwritten "Jane and Molly, x-mas, 1190"

The last page, "The acrobats were good this year."

Photo of girl with missing teeth in front of Christmas tree

1992

I fudged this "All I Want for Christmas" photo by blacking out a tooth that was loose but not quite gone, confident that it would fall out in time.

Remember what I said about a simple card follows after an ambitious card?
