Calligraphy with a stamp initial G: "Good King Wenceslas looked out on the feast of Stephen, when the snow lay round about, deep & crisp & even. Brightly shone the moon that night, thought the frost was cruel. Came a poor man into sight gathering winter fuel."

1980

I wasn't loving my job, and it became clear to me that my fine arts education was inadequate in the design arena. I left my position when I got a teaching fellowship at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. I studied design history, printmaking, photography, and bookbinding.

By this time I was sending cards to a large list. For a limited group I did hand calligraphy and gave the card an accordion fold. For others I had the caligraphy printed on a flat card. I decorated both with stamps I carved and with a little glitter on the good king's crown.

The card is unfolded, including more stamps and "Ye who now will bless the poor shall yourselves find blessing."
