Sayers was the first mystery writer I got hooked on. Her detective, Lord Peter Wimsey, dazzled in several books. Then, starting in Strong Poison, Sayers sort of wrote herself into the books: Harriet Vane is a mystery writer who beguiles Wimsey. Very British, and quite delightful.
