Drawing of hands wrapping Christmas gifts

Inside: O Tidings of Comfort and Joy

This isn't the story of my whole life: I didn't start sending out Christmas cards until I was out of college.

I spent the first year after graduation lazing at home in Columbus, then went off to have adventures in the big city of Chicago. My friend Linda let me crash with her while I found a job as a mail clerk in an NFP near the University of Chicago. (I lived for a year in the physics fraternity, which was not unlike living The Big Bang Theory.)

I eventually became an editorial assistant. The printer offered to do Christmas cards for a colleague and me. I sent the card to family and a few friends.

I visited my brother in Hawaii: I brought my portfolio and got a job at Sunbums newspaper. I was the art director and laid out the issues, running paper texts through a waxer and pasting them up to be photographed by the printer. Days of sun and music.

Hawaii was never really home to me, so I returned to the mainland and got a cool train ticket that took me to visit family and friends all over the continent. It was a mellow month or two...
